Right now we are living in unprecedented times. With the unique circumstances we are facing, a lot of stress and overwhelming thoughts can surface. I’ve written out a list of things that have helped me when I’ve been under a lot of stress or when I’ve been overwhelmed by my circumstances. Each of these things helped me to calm my nerves, focus on things I could control, and regain mindfulness. Take a look at my list below:
- Stop checking the news
- Shut your phone off for a while
- Go for a walk for some fresh air
- Clean up your room
- Light some candles
- Drink a warm cup of tea
- Do a face mask
- Color or draw something
- Listen to sounds of rain or the ocean
- Journal about what is causing you stress
- List the things overwhelming you
- Do yoga or meditate
- Ask someone for a hug
- Read a fiction novel
- When all else fails–Take a nap ❤
How to Use This List
I recommend doing a combination of a few of these. For example, clean up your room, light some candles, and drink a nice cup of tea. Maybe try shutting off your phone and taking a walk.
Don’t feel like you have to do everything on the list. Don’t task master your way to calmness. It will not work. You will not pass go or collect 200 dollars.
All jokes aside, you need to give yourself time to relax and unwind. You need to let go of your stress and anxious thoughts. Focusing on your mental health is extremely important during these daunting times. Remember you are not alone in this. We can get through this together. You are stronger than you know ❤
