13 Sustainable Hobbies to Try Now for a More Sustainable Lifestyle

One thing I found when trying to live more sustainably was that some of the hobbies I had weren’t all that great for the environment. I’ve written out a short list of some of the hobbies I’ve been trying out to find sustainable hobbies! Check them out below:

  • Sewing – mend your clothes or sew new ones
  • Thrifting – find new treasures to reuse
  • Furniture upcycling – give something a new life in your home!
  • Gardening – grow your own plastic free veggies
  • Composting – nutrients for your garden
  • Cooking or baking at home – no takeout containers
  • Making jam – using in season berries for out of season delight!
  • Canning – preserving fresh foods for the winter
  • Volunteering – picking up garbage, helping at gardens in your community, the list could go on and on here!
  • Blogging – all online and you can share your passions
  • Soap Making – say goodbye to body wash bottles
  • Learn another language – download an app and communicate with more people
  • Reading – visit your public library

Some of my all time favorite hobbies are gardening, thrifting and blogging! I continuously do all three of these because they have always brought me joy! But I have recently been rediscovering other sustainable hobbies.

I’m Reading Again

One hobby I rediscovered was reading for leisure! I used to only read when I had to in school or short articles I could read quickly online or in magazines.

Finally, I feel like I’ve found a genre that I enjoy enough to dedicate time to read a whole book. I have been getting into historical fictions lately. Monica Hesse is an author I’ve really been enjoying and I read three of her books! I would like to go to the library soon to find other historical fictions to dive into.

Soap Making Fun

Soap making is something I just recently got into. I tried it for the first time with a friend and we made over 12 bars of soap! It was a lot of fun! We used a goats milk base and then added different scents to make the bars our own.

Furniture Upcycling

Furniture Upcycling is another hobby I have been getting into again. I repainted my coffee table, two night stands, and two chairs last year and I just finished redoing a big dresser for our bedroom!

I will have a post coming soon about my furniture painting tips! Be sure to look out for it! The best way to see when new articles are published is to subscribe to the Creative and Ambitious Email List!
