How Studying Abroad in Scotland Changed My Life (and Why I Love Helping Other Women Travel)

With my recent move to the rainbow state and marriage to my husband, Michael, I’ve been re-evaluating most things in my life. Relationships, habits, boundaries, goals, hobbies… I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about how I want my life to look and feel. It’s the first time I’ve slowed down and really taken a look at my life in years.

So much has changed in my life recently, but the biggest thing I’m noticing is that I crave connection. Living in Hawaii is incredible, and I love building our next chapter here with Michael, but I miss my friends and my sisters a lot.

Starting Over Somewhere New

Rebuilding that sense of community in a new place is hard. Especially when I have such an incredible group of friends in Green Bay, sisters that live close by, and my entrepreneur friends (at the Nest!). Thank GOD for FaceTime, but there’s nothing that compares to spending time with your people in real life.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the group trip I hosted to Scotland in 2024. Leading that group trip brought me so much joy, and helping other women travel to Scotland for the first time was magical. For a couple of travelers, it was their first time traveling internationally. That trip reminded me why I do this.

Why I Hosted That First Group Trip

When I was younger, I never thought I would get to see so many beautiful places. I had hoped to visit London or maybe Ireland. I thought that was all I might get to see, and that felt like a privilege. International travel felt like something I couldn’t afford or navigate on my own.

Then I moved to Scotland for a year to finish my studies. I navigated the process of applying and transferring to an international university, getting a visa, saving enough money, and packing for a year abroad. That was my first time leaving the country, my first time flying alone, and my first time moving somewhere without knowing a single person.

Living and studying in Scotland changed how I thought of the world, my country, and myself. I now knew that I could afford international travel. I could navigate another country. The rest of the world wasn’t as far out of reach as I thought it was. That experience is a big part of why I started hosting group trips.

Why I Want to Host More Group Trips

Helping other women travel, take a trip, experience a new place, maybe look at their life a little differently, gives me a sense of purpose. International travel is life-changing, and I want to make that possible and feel less daunting for the people in my life.

If you want to take a trip with me, whether it’s your first time out of the country or your 25th time, I’d love to show you some of the beautiful places this world has to offer.

Great things are possible when you step outside of your comfort zone.

Will You Join the Next Adventure?

Travel can feel intimidating when you’re doing it alone for the first time — especially internationally. That’s why I love creating trips where people can travel with community, support, and a shared sense of adventure.

Most of the travelers who join my trips are:

• taking their first international trip
• traveling solo but want connection and community
• professionals or entrepreneurs who want meaningful travel experiences
• women who love adventure but appreciate thoughtful planning

Most of my community is based in the United States, especially the Midwest, and Europe is often the perfect starting point for travelers who are new to international trips. But eventually, I want to lead trips all over the world to destinations like Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Morocco, Peru, Brazil, and even Antarctica.

Travel opens the door to experiences most of us only dreamed about when we were younger, helping other women travel and step through that door is something I am very passionate about.
