It’s that time of year again when days fly by and you’re busy, rushing around preparing for the holidays! If you haven’t ordered your holiday cards, don’t be alarmed. There’s still time to create beautiful custom holiday cards this season! As I know you’re probably short on time, I’ll keep this relatively short and sweet with my best tips on how to make the best custom holiday cards.
Here’s how to make the best custom holiday cards:
Select an eye-catching design and start to customize it
To save yourself time, I recommend using a card company that has premade templates. This allows you to pick out something close to what you want. Then, you can customize it to make it your own! You might want to change text, fonts, and colors, or add foil to the text. There are even options to pick a specific card shape and customize your envelope color to match your design.
This year I ordered 5 sample holiday cards that I was able to customize from Basic Invite. With Basic Invite I was able to get exactly what I wanted. On their website, they have 180 colors in the design space and you can choose from 40 envelope colors! Check out some of the travel-themed holiday cards I created below.
Have you designed the card but don’t know what to write?
When it comes to writing Christmas or Holiday cards, don’t overthink it. Most times, short and simple messages go a long way when paired with sweet smiles on your holiday cards. While short and sweet saves you time, you may still want it to feel more personal. If this is the case, you can write a longer section of text either next to a photo or on the back of the card.
On the card below, I wrote out a message about the photo on the front of the card and shared one of my travel experiences. This is a great way to make the card feel more personal. I’ve also seen on holiday cards where families will share some of their bigger moments from the year to share with the recipient and I always think this is so sweet and helps the reader feel connected to the family.
Here are a few simple phrases you can use on your holiday cards:
- Wishing you and yours a happy holiday season
- Seasons Greetings from the (family name)
- Wishing you a merry and bright Christmas
- May your days be merry and bright
- Happy Holidays from the (family name)
- Merry Christmas and a happy new year
- Sending Peace, Joy, and Love
Choose high-quality images for your holiday cards
High-quality visuals are so important when it comes to creating the best Christmas cards 2022 has ever seen! I’m usually creating Christmas cards on the go and don’t usually set up a photo shoot for holiday photos. I love to use my travel photos to share about my adventures with loved ones. By using photos I already have, I can reduce the amount of time and stress I put into creating my holiday cards.
Not everyone has personal photographers, so when I say high-quality images, I really mean to make sure you are using crystal-clear photos. You don’t want them to get fuzzy when you resize them to fit your Christmas card template or while you’re working on your custom holiday card design. Most smartphones have incredible cameras. You can use any of the photos you take throughout the year on your phone without sacrificing quality.
Order a sample of your custom holiday card
When it comes to making sure your photos print crystal-clear, if you have time, I recommend ordering a sample. This way you can see what they will look like before you order a whole batch! If you’re looking to order samples to review, you’ll want to keep in mind that these cards ship in 7-11 days.
What I love about Basic Invite, is that you can order samples of different designs if you’re indecisive (like me). Another thing that blew my mind was that Basic Invite offers free address capturing AND envelope printing for no cost. This could save you SO much time and they have super cute fonts to choose from! Instead of addressing envelopes, you could be decorating cookies with you’re loved ones or checking out holiday markets!
Creating my holiday cards was quick and easy so I highly recommend Basic Invite if you’re short on time this holiday season. My whole experience with them was positive. I found the website very easy to use and was able to customize designs in minutes. I will be ordering all of my holiday cards from Basic Invite this year! Now that you have time to check out some holiday markets, you should check out my article on foods to try at European Christmas Markets!
