How to Make a Vision Board

This post is to guide you through making a vision board. Vision boards can be extremely helpful when you’ve hit a creative rut. I find myself turning back to them every now and then. It may seem like just some magazine clippings on a poster board but the final product is much more than what you can see. Its focus and vision. It shows where you want to be and how you will get there.

By now hopefully you are fired up to get started with your vision board. I like to start by gathering my materials like magazines, spare craft paper cuttings, and tape. For an Eco-friendly version consider grabbing a cork board and pins instead! Now, turn on a feel-good playlist and get lost in those magazines.

When I’m looking through magazines I look for pictures to use but I also look for words that inspire me. As I clip away, I like to arrange my clippings by colors to keep my board aesthetically pleasing.

Once I have enough words and pictures I begin to move them onto my board. I tend to work on my board in sections. One corner is typically health and lifestyle related while others focus on ambitions, hobbies, or things that inspire me.

For this board I felt a lot of inspiration from pictures of plants and flowers so I focused the watering can and floral pictures near the center (view full board below). In the top right hand corner I focused on ambition. Coffee is one thing that I love but it also serves as a personal motivation. There is also a small section of pink things just because the color makes me so happy.

In the bottom corner I, of course, focused on my love of travel. Travel is an inspiration and a motivation for me. If I am ever having a hard time financially or I’m overly stressed out I shift my mindset to “I am putting in the work and doing this so I can travel later”.

The board I made may make you feel inspired just looking at it but it also may be the farthest thing from what makes you happy. The focus of this post isn’t to show you how I made a vision board but to inspire you to unleash your creativity and make one with your own goals and dreams. No matter what you choose to put on your board, just make sure it means something to you.

I love travelling, taking pictures, drinking coffee, and writing. I want to spread positivity and curiosity through all that I do. In 2019, I lived in Scotland for a year and that is where my love for adventure stems. Stay Creative and Ambitious ❤
