How to Start Shopping Sustainably for the Low Waste Beginner
If you’ve read any of my other articles, you probably know that almost a year ago I made a resolution to create less waste. I have come a long way from where I was at the beginning of the year. As I was able to make swaps and stick with them, I started to think of where else I could reduce waste. One spot to work on was shopping sustainably. In the beginning, some of my easiest swaps were to recycled toilet paper, shampoo bars, a safety razor, and reusable bags. I’ve actually found that these swaps have saved me money and time as well. That was an unexpected bonus!…

Oh My Lush – My First Lush Experience
Lush is a health and beauty brand that sells face, hair, and body care. All of their products are fresh, vegetarian, ethically sourced, and handmade. I made a set of 12 rounds with some extra flannel fabric I had at home. There are pictures along the way to show my progress! Step #1 Start out by using the end of a cleaning bottle to stencil circles. This bottle should be a little bigger than the size of cotton rounds you are trying to make. I drew out 24 total. By making the circles a little bigger than needed, you will have extra on the edges…

Ways I Want to Waste Less
I’ve found comfort in transitioning to less wasteful living. It makes every decision I make intentional and more thoughtful. This year I have switched to: using reusable bags, a 100% recycled toilet paper brand (Who Gives a Crap), a biodegradable phone case (from Pela), and a bamboo toothbrush. I want to keep making swaps for things I use daily to create less waste. The Journey to Sustainability Last year, when I was studying in Scotland, I was living a somewhat minimalist lifestyle because I knew I would be moving back to the US and I couldn’t fit a lot in my suitcase on the way back. But I also realized…
