Setting goals is essential to building the life you want. That’s right. I’m here to teach you how to build your life and your future. Wanting something simply isn’t enough. You need to take action to bring yourself closer to achieving your goals. I believe everyone should be a builder; building a better future for yourself and for your loved ones. You are the only person that has the power to change your life.
10 Years from Now. . .
Take a moment to think of where you want to be 10 years from now. I know that’s a long time from now! Maybe you’re sipping coffee in a beautiful home with three little munchkins(some people call these kids) running around you. Or you’re in a tall office building, running a meeting of 20+ people and confidently sharing your vision with them. Maybe you’re in another country on a volunteering mission.
Your Dreams are Possible
Whatever you’re envisioning for yourself is POSSIBLE. Everyone has to start somewhere. I believe 100% that life is what you put into it. There are always things you can do to improve your quality of life, your skill set, or your circumstance to get closer to the life you want. If you believe in yourself and your vision, you can achieve anything.
When you put the time and effort in to make your goals a reality you gain confidence in yourself and you gain a sense of achievement and accomplishment. This is the key to living a meaningful and fulfilling life.
Write Down Your Dreams!
Grab a pencil and paper! Write out your biggest dreams. Some of mine are:
- Travel to all EU Countries
- Live a sustainable lifestyle
- Get a master’s degree
- Start a business
- Live in Scotland again
A Goal is Just a Dream with A Deadline.

Now Get Specific with Your Goals
Next try to make your goals more specific. For example, when I was trying to study in Scotland, I started out just thinking I wanted to go to Europe. Then I decided that the things I wanted to see or do in Europe would take a longer amount of time than what would be possible to do in a weeks’ vacation. Then I realized that if I decided to study in Scotland I would be able to travel and see more than I could in those yearly one-week vacations. From there I had to research schools and find one that I could transfer to. I then, made my goal more specific by changing my focus to: Studying abroad in Scotland at Robert Gordon University to finish my bachelors degree.
After focusing my goal to be more specific, I worked on defining all of the things I had to accomplish before I could leave for Scotland. Some of the things I needed to achieve to study at RGU included: getting a better paying job, saving 10,000 for living expenses for the year, applying for a student visa, making arrangements for living and traveling to Scotland, and applying for scholarships. I also worked on the things I considered to be more fun, like making a packing list and writing out a list of places I wanted to visit while abroad.
Take it One Step at a Time
Some of the steps along the way will be more enjoyable than others but remember to enjoy the process. Each step is important to achieving your goal. Remind yourself you are working towards something greater.
By setting specific goals and then breaking what you need to do to achieve them, you will have a good idea of how much you need to put in or sacrifice (ex. money, time, nights out) to make this goal a reality.
Keep dreaming and scheming <3
Until next time,
Sarah

Heyaa,
I love love love this mindset of yours! 🙂
Thinking about where exactly one wants to be in 10 years is exciting and scary at the same time. But it´s important to do so because the fact is if you keep doing what you do you will always have the same outcomes as you already have. So thinking ahead and structuring you life according to your goals is super important.
Way too often, I get upset about short-range failures and forget that they might only be part of my long term goals. I mean without any struggles and downs, we wouldn´t appreciate the highs. Right?
Thank you for provoking this thought process with your blog.
